Botox Sweating and Hyperhidrosis

Botox & Sweating – Safe Alternative for Fast Relief Hyperhidrosis

This refers to uncontrollable sweating of the hands, face, or forehead. If the sweating occurs under the arms, it is referred to as auxiliary hyperhidrosis. This is a very uncomfortable condition that affects roughly 1% of the population. Auxiliary hyperhidrosis is commonly treated with topical treatments, which are not effective for everyone suffering from the condition. In that case, the FDA has approved Botox injections as an alternative form of treatment. For many people, it is what finally delivers relief from the discomforts of the constant sweating. Hyperhidosis is usually caused by an overactive nervous system. The problems and complications that arise from such a condition are mostly social in nature.

Botox treatments for Hyperhidrosis will calm the activity of the nervous system under the arms, which results in less sweating. This provides relief for up to two years and comes with very few side effects or risks. Hyperhidosis treatments will consist of 15 to 20 Botox injections under the arms. This procedure will need to be repeated in the future, but the exact length of time in between will be determined on a case by case basis. Most patients will need additional injections about every 6 to 8 months, but it can be longer for some patients.

Unlike facial Botox that is used for cosmetic purposes, Auxiliary Botox treatments can be rather painful and expensive. Some insurance plans may cover part of the cost if it is medically necessary, but patients can expect to pay over a thousand dollars for every treatment that is needed. Despite the cost and pain that undergoing this type of Botox procedure requires, most patients are more than willing to take the treatment.

This condition can be extremely difficult to live with as the constant sweating leads to many social and sometimes even medical problems. That makes the pain and expense well worth the fast relief. When the hyperhidrosis is in the face or hands Botox is not a good treatment option. Injecting into the face in multiple shots at once can be extremely painful. In the case of the palms, there can even be temporary muscle paralysis that makes it difficult or impossible to use the hands until it wears off.

There are some other possible side effects of Botox injections for this condition, including:

* Anxiety
* Hemorrhaging
* Flu-like symptoms
* Headaches
* Itching
* Fever
* Sweating in other body parts

In some cases the constant sweating may be a symptom of a more serious condition which cannot be relieved just through Botox. This is why patients need to be thoroughly checked out by a physician before undergoing this type of treatment. Botox injections for hyperhidrosis should only be administered by a certified, well trained plastic surgeon in a sterile medical atmosphere.
